Volunteer Opportunity (on behalf of a community partner):  Consider volunteering for the Queer Arts Festival (QAF) 2017!

"QAF is an annual artist-run multi-disciplinary summer arts festival at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, BC. Recognized as one of the top 5 festivals of its kind worldwide (Melbourne Sun Herald), QAF produces, presents and exhibits with a curatorial vision favouring challenging, thought-provoking work that pushes boundaries and initiates dialogue. Each year, the festival theme ties together a curated visual art exhibition, performing arts series, workshops, artist talks, panels, and media art screenings.

"This year, Pride in Art Society dedicates our 2017 Queer Arts Festival, UnSettled, to Indigenous art and artists by turning over programming to Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+-identified Indigenous creators. In our collaboration with Indigenous arts organizations and artists and taking our lead from them, we aim to counteract the established power imbalances of colonial privilege, with the recognition that Two-Spirit people are already a part of our community and organizational mandate.

"We have shifts during the festival from the 17th June until the 28th June, as well as prep/install and strike shifts before and after the festival. Our opening night on the 17th is usually one of the most exciting nights for volunteers, as they get to be part of an important social event and meet many interesting people from within the community. Volunteers will have a chance to see shows at the festival and will be invited to our special closing party."

Pflag Vancouver acknowledges that our work spans many Territories and Treaty areas and that our meetings are held on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, to those who have gone before us, and for the youth that inspire us. We recognize the land as an act of Reconciliation, as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) 94 Calls to Action, and of gratitude to those whose territory we reside on, work on or are visiting.
