BC Council for Families' LGBTQ Parenting Program

2/3/2015

VANCOUVER, BC: When people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or queer (LGBTQ) decide they want to have children, their road to parenthood is often a lengthy process full of complex legal, emotional and financial challenges.

To help prospective LGBTQ parents learn more about their options for starting a family, the BC Council for Families is hosting a workshop in Vancouver from February 20th to 22nd entitled “Making Family: A Weekend Workshop for LGBTQ People Considering Parenthood.”

Over the course of the weekend, facilitator Rachel Epstein will go over different methods of becoming parents such as pregnancy (including donor insemination), adoption, co-parenting and surrogacy. She will also cover diverse family configurations, current research on LGBTQ parenting and legal issues. The content of the course will be modified to suit the needs and interests of the participants, and participants are encouraged to bring their partners, potential co-parents and friends.

For more information, or to register for the workshop, visit: https://www.bccf.ca/bccf/trainings/making-family-a-weekend-workshop-for-lgbtq-people-considering-parenthood/.

Pflag Vancouver acknowledges that our work spans many Territories and Treaty areas and that our meetings are held on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, to those who have gone before us, and for the youth that inspire us. We recognize the land as an act of Reconciliation, as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) 94 Calls to Action, and of gratitude to those whose territory we reside on, work on or are visiting.
