PFLAG Vancouver invites you to visit the website for the BC Safer Schools Coalition.
As you may be aware, there is much debate happening right now within the Vancouver school district at the board level (VSB) with regard to their Sexual Identities and Gender Orientation Policy. A coalition has been formed which we'd like to support, and we'd like you to know about it.
"The BC Safer Schools Coalition is made of organizations and individuals who believe that all students, staff, and family members have the right to feel safe and welcome at school, regardless of race, class, ability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression."
PFLAG Vancouver would like your support on this issue. Please visit the BC Safer Schools Coalition website, educate yourself about the important issues at hand, and help us to educate others.
Please also sign the petition started by our friend and ally Morgane Oger.
*Update* As of June 16th, the Vancouver School Board approved its Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Policy. Included were important revisions which make Vancouver the first district in BC to have clear guidelines that protect and ensure the identity and well-being of transgender students. We are thrilled by this development, and we look forward to its implementation.
PFLAG Canada is proud to announce a Cross Border Collaboration with Film Presence. We are helping to promote the Kickstarter campaign for their new documentary “Do I Sound Gay”, and in turn, they are sharing the news about our Trans Awareness Campaign.
