PFLAG Canada is a national voice that speaks for a more accepting Canadian society by providing support, education and resources on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Since 2000, I have been raising funds annually for the AIDS Walk for Life, and this year is no different. I'm proud of what I've helped to accomplish, and I want to help continue supporting the Positive Living Society of BC to do the amazing outreach work they do, such as the CHF. The Community Health Fund (CHF) is an initiative which aims to mitigate the burden of health-related expenses associated with HIV disease that are not covered by other funding sources. The CHF is funded directly through the efforts of the AIDS WALK for LIFE. Help us fundraise online! You can join our team, or you can make a one-time donation. All efforts are appreciated. We are WALKing to raise money for people living with HIV/AIDS. Thank you for your support! Colin McKenna President - PFLAG Vancouver Event Date Sep 21, 2014 10:00 AM Location Name Sunset Beach

At 12:00 noon individuals, families, and organizations are invited to gather with our members, youth, and allies at Rotary Stadium (32470 Haida Drive). Our ‘walk with pride’ will begin at 12:30 pm – travelling south on Trethewey Street, east on South Fraser Way, north on Garden Street, west on George Ferguson Way, then north on Trethewey Street. After the walk, which loops back to Rotary Stadium, the festivities will begin with a welcome, followed by remarks from our community leaders. Youth performances will be showcased, and people are invited to dance and enjoy the music. Pride souvenirs will be available for sale before and after the walk. Donations will be graciously accepted and all proceeds from the event will support our drop-in centers and help us send youth to summer camps, conferences, and events. Becca Hays, President of the board of directors for FVYS notes that, “Our pride event is meant to bring community together and show support to our youth. Diversity should not be shamed rather it should be celebrated. This is the message we send to the youth that attend our drop-in’s each week and we are happy to bring this message to the Fraser Valley. Our event is for the whole family, so please feel free to join us and show your support.” FVYS operates weekly drop-in programs for LGBTQ and allied youth in the communities of Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack. For more information about our drop-in’s please visit our website or contact us. Anyone interested in volunteering, or hosting a community table at the event should contact the organizers before September 5th, 2014. |
